Every lift to be erected and commissioned is required to be undertaken under the provisions of the Karnataka Lift Act 1974 & Rules made there under.
The Karnataka Lift Rules 1976 is enacted By the Govt. Of Karnataka, under the Powers Conferred By Section 14 of the Karnataka Lift Act, 1974.
The lifts in residential, commercial, office complexes and industrial buildings need to be installed as per requirement laid down in the rules prevailing at that time. However, the construction, maintenance and safe working of lifts shall be as per the provisions laid down in Karnataka Lift Rules 1976 framed under Karnataka Lift Act 1974.
The Chief Electrical Inspector is the state inspector of Lifts for grant of license to operate the lift, where as the Deputy Chief electrical Inspector issues permission to erect a lift. The Deputy Chief electrical Inspector undertakes inspection of lifts and recommends for grant of Licence.
The installation & maintenance of lifts shall be carried out by the Lift manufacturers, authorized & approved lift Agencies only.
All Lift Installations (excluding the lift covered under the Factories Act) are inspected and licenses are granted to ensure safety protection to the persons using the lifts as well as to ensure the safe working of lifts.
