The department has been Re-organized during 2001-02 by which six offices of Deputy Chief Electrical Inspectors were started with the sanction of seven DCEI posts one each to the six field offices and one at head office. Further, 16 additional posts of Electrical Inspectors, 13 posts of Deputy Electrical Inspectors and 12 posts of Assistant Electrical Inspectors have been sanctioned raising the total no of sanctioned posts to 329.
Subsequently as per the policy of the Govt. to cut 80% of the existing vacancies in each department, Govt. have abolished 46 posts including a post of senior accounts officer in the department. As such the sanctioned strength is reduced to 283.
Consequent to the formation of two no.s of new districts, at Ramanagara and at Chikkaballapur, a total number of six posts have been sanctioned raising the total number of sanctioned posts to 289. The new posts sanctioned are, Deputy Electrical Inspector- 2 nos, Assistant Electrical Inspector- 1 No. FDA -1 No., Driver -1 No. and Peon-1 no..
